It has proven best to insert a stripped fiber directly into the optopatcher. This way coupling losses are minimized.
As an alternative, fiber stubs with ferrule can be inserted into the optopatcher. They are connected to an optical fiber with another ferrule via sleeves.

Using the OptoPatcher is an easy way to combine optogenetics with patch clamp experiments: the optical fiber is simply inserted into the recording pipette. The optopatcher makes sure that all connections are air-tight so that pressure manipulation and seal forming can be controlled via the suction port.
